Thread starter jsur Start date Mar 30, Messages Reaction score 92 Location Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I certainly received the information I was looking for very grateful in fact and I am now debating my engine choice.

I figured I would start a new thread as the other one was really getting off topic. I would consider the VF or possibly the VF I have looked at the performance bulletins and see that there is only a few second difference in the mph times on similarly equipped boats. It also seems as if the there is a few mph difference on top end speed. I am new to boating and watersports and I am wondering if this is 'real world' significant or the F will be more than enough.

Is this worth the upgrade? Thanks in advance. You don't have to use it all the time, but it's nice to have when you need the power.

I guess what I am asking, is there anybody that has driven similar boats with both motors and really noticed a difference? This would be like Tom's post about esp vs sps and he had tried both. I would prefer the better gas mileage if there is not really a perceivable difference.

Went to the dealership today that had the F In Line on a boat I liked. All the other bass boats I have looked at with Yamaha's have had the Sho. I asked him why the difference in price? I asked if the Sho is more fuel efficient.

He laughed and said no. He basically refused to give an answer. From my research I see that the Sho has faster take off speed.

Both motors seem to weigh the same. I can find the take off speed for the Sho for the exact model bass boat I'm looking at but I can not for the In Line. It will not give me the option to put it on the bass boat. Just inshore boats.

Tags: None. I suspect they are basically the same motors? So are you a WOT type of guy? If not, you might not even be using the extra 25 hp of the even though you would be "paying for it" every time you fill up. And the will still give you 25 more than you have been living with. V MAX SHO 150 Overview

It would be interesting to see the power curve on the V6 F versus the four cylinder F Would you be giving up hole shot power? Fuel consumption probably better at cruise on the four cylinder. I thought I read the F 4 cylinder required 89 octane. Although another thing is the propping - and a factor which I have never understood, or seen discussed: assume two engines do, in fact, match fairly closely through the power curve - up until close to WOT when there's a substantial difference; since the convention for propping is performance at WOT potentially they would get two different props Then, at a mid-range rpm, where the power output of each is actually pretty close - the performance is going to be significantly different - because of the prop.

Yamaha site says 89 minimum for the F 4 cylinder. As I have said before, most boat dealers are really terrible. The OPs numbers are both wrong - but "regular" is 87, yes?

Unless he's in a state where he's going to be buying "REC 90" then it doesn't matter. Probably 3 gas stations in a 50 mile radius of here that sell 91 Octane Marine Fuel. Most stations sell 89 around here. I wonder if Boscoe has any torque or power info on these motors at various throttle settings?

It screams on the water and doesnt burn a lot of gas. Not sure if its worth the extra 5k or not, but I will say that it is a great motor. Replies 0.

Not really apples to apples but a buddy has a SHO on his party barge and that thing moves! It's a great motor and very quiet. But as for it being fuel efficient, it's not.
